Family Doctor Very Important After Car Accident

Harris & Brun

An article in the Vancouver Sun earlier this year reported that there are an estimated 100,000 Vancouver residents that do not have a family doctor.  As I tell my clients, seeing a family doctor regularly is key in assisting them on the road to recovery, following a car accident.

Seeing your family doctor regularly will ensure you get consistent care in the critical months following your injury.  Referrals from your family doctors are essential for you to get necessary treatment from physiotherapists, massage therapists and other medical specialists paid for under Part 7 benefits.

Having a family doctor also simplifies your legal action because getting records from a series of doctors from walk-in clinics is time consuming and costly.  Your family doctor’s clinical records are the basis on which your family doctor will form his or her opinion about your injuries and prognosis. They also assist other medical experts I retain in the course of your legal action in forming their opinions. These opinions are what the judge will rely on in determining the compensation you deserve.

If you have been in a car accident, and do not have a family doctor visit the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia website.  They have a handy database of all the family doctors that are taking patients.
